Why should my Council have specific email addresses?

There are a few main reasons why you should consider getting Council-specific email addresses.
Arguably the most important reason is security, as our email accounts are provided with additional security features that mean that they are less likely to be targetted and used for malicious purposes. There is also a huge benefit when it comes to data copmliance and retention for when it comes to changes in staff or Council members, and also when there is an FOI/SARS request. If your Council use personal email accounts, these may need to be surrendered in order to fulfil these types of requests, meaning that personal emails will need to be filtered through in order to acquire the requested information, with Council-specific emails, all of this is much more straight-forward and completely separate to individual emails. Lastly, a unique, organisation-specific email address is much more recognisable and trustworthy when emails are being sent out. Receipients of your emails can easily identify that an email has come from your Council simply by seeing your email address, adding to the validity and legitimacy of your communications.
